Shared Focus – installment 3

IMG_1698-Edit

Well, this was certainly a challenge for me!  Our theme was “bicycle” and in the desert there are not a lot of opportunities to photography bikes!  Visit our collaboration to see what we came up with!

I’ve been having internet issues so couldn’t post this yesterday (I tried for over an hour!).  But today not only is a new day, but I have a new internet provider!!

Shared Focus – Week 2

Shared Focus is a collaborative effort between Kate, from Inspired, and myself.  Every second week we post a photograph depicting a “theme” word.  This week our word was “reflections”.

After a year of being retired I returned to the work force to say that I have spent many hours reflecting on my life would be an understatement.  Reflecting on what has been, and wondering about what will be.  Of course looking back isn’t the only reflections we can have.  There is the mirror, reflections in the windows and so on  But because I so love the water, I sought out and found an oasis in the desert where I was able to photography the reflection of a tree.  (OK, actually it’s a pond on the golf course…)  Another facet of this collaboration is to put words to our photography.  These words can be a quote, or as in the case for me this time something that we write ourselves.

“She walks through her life and wonders what happened.  The face in the mirror that returns her stare is unfamiliar.  The woman in the shop window wearing her clothes is a stranger.  She looks back, sorting through her memories and wonders if they  are as distorted as the reflections in the water, based in fact but grown softer and gentler over time.”

Shared Focus – Wandering

Today is a big day in my life.  Shared Focus debuts!  Shared Focus is a collaborative site where Kate from Inspried and  I are sharing our love of photography.  Every second week we will be posting our interpretation of a word or phrase.  Kate is much more of a creative spirit than I am and it’s going to be a lot of fun to see our interpretations.  Please pop (click) on over and have a look.  You can also join in the fun if you would like to.  And I’d like to say a big thank you to Kate.  She actively sought my input for the blog design, but it is 100% her art work.  She is a very talented lady!  THANK YOU KATE!

This is also my first effort at participation in Sunday Citar.  Sunday Citar is the brain child of “Fresh Mommy” and it’s a place were we can get together and share our favorite quotes.

And because friends are all around me, physically and emotionally, and have made my recent moves much easier to handle, I’d like to thank them all.

SoFoBoMo – completed!

Yes, finally my *fuzzy* SoFoBoMo project is complete.  This was a world wide *event* where, over a 31 day period, photographers were to take a minimum of 31 photos, edit them and create a .pdf book.   756 photographers signed up to take part in this event, and as I write this post 83 books have been completed and posted.  Everyone has until midnight on 30 June to finish.

I thought for a long time for a subject, or theme, to tie these photographs together and in the end decided that I would take all of my photographs with my new Canon 24-70mm lens.  I chose to begin my month on 11 May.  I took several photos in Illinois and then on our way to my folks I took a couple in Mississippi and finished up in Louisiana.  I completed the photographs and editing yesterday and then set about to make my book.

I had decided to use Blurb.  I could prepare my book, print a .pdf version and then order a copy of my book.  After all of the work I expended in this project I really wanted a finished project to enjoy.  And so, after a couple of hours I had a book that I was happy with and had saved a .pdf file of it.  Imagine my surprise when I went to upload the .pdf only to discover that the project had a 15mb restriction and my book was over 200mb!

I finally decided to make a *condensed* copy of my book.  The .pdf file I’ve put on my own server.

And so I am very happy to announce that my book for 2009 is complete and you can see my book here, and all the other completed books, here.

(I’m so proud of it that I’ve even posted a link in my sidebar to my book on Blurb!)

SkyWatch Friday

It’s another rainy Friday, but since we’ve had about 5 days of gorgeous blue skies I cannot complain. And to be honest, I am happy to have the excuse to stay in and be lazy instead of tackling the garden planting and the mowing! So here’s my SkyWatch photo – the sky is so dull!!
