Yesterday was May Day, which has pagan roots. It’s related to the Festival of Beltane (Celtic) and the Festial of Walpurgis Night (Germanic). Basically the celebrations date back to pagan times and was a celebration of spring. In some areas fires were built, in some witches were said to meet, and it is even said that Druids used to perform human sacrifices at this time.

Later May Day became associated with labor celebrations, generally in countries that were socialist.

I live in the mid-west, which (speaking in stereotypes) is a very (VERY) conservative, Republican, Christian area.

Why do they celebrate May Day??
